Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about IJSC membership, verification, complaints and the Code of Standards — and why to join.

IJSC frequently asked questions about membership and standards

No. The IJSC is an independent, voluntary and non-statutory journalism standards and membership organisation. It does not hold statutory powers or Royal Charter recognition — and it never claims to. Its authority comes from transparency: a published code, a public register, and documented outcomes. If you want your independence to mean accountable journalism, join it.

The cause

Independent doesn't mean unaccountable.

We're honest that building credible independent journalism takes time. What moves it forward is people willing to stand up and be counted. Join now, carry the card, and share the cause — every new member makes the standard harder to ignore.

Ambassador programme

Help us build what comes next

Members who believe in the cause can help shape the IJSC — reaching other journalists, contributing to the code, and standing for the future of accountable independent journalism. Tell us you're interested when you apply, and we'll be in touch as the programme opens.
